Deepak Chahar: Indian medium pacer Deepak Chahar, who was on the roster and was a potential replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, suffered back and hip injuries prior to the ODI match against South Africa in Lucknow on Thursday. With just a fortnight until their opening match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, India suffered another injury blow.

He was immediately transported to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where the medical staff of the Indian Cricket Board will evaluate the severity of his injury, whether it is serious or not, and whether he will be able to travel to Australia with the team or not. A report on Chahar will be sent to us soon. On the night before the game, he experienced back pain and was extremely uneasy.
Sent to NCA for more scans
The team's management made the choice to send him to NCA, where more scans will be performed. Initially, it appears to be a back and hip injury.
Since he suffered a back injury during this year's IPL and missed four months of cricket, this time it would be more closely watched. Unfortunately, this happened just as his demand in the team was rising . He was injured too late to accompany the Indian team to Perth, where they would have two exhibition matches against Australia (17 October) and New Zealand (Oct 19).
Bumrah and Jadeja's exclusion
They could not afford to lose another fast bowler to injury after already losing Bumrah and all-arounder Ravindra Jadeja, two crucial assets. Additionally, Chahar's injury came at the worst possible time because Bumrah's replacement was set to be announced two days from now on October 9, the deadline for confirming the team.

Although Shami was the early leader in the race, but stakes were too high for Deepak. Chahar, in contrast to Shami, has played every T20 match against the Proteas and Australia before them. Shami, on the other hand, didn't play for his country since an ODI match against England on July 22 of this year. In the World Cup last year, he played against Namibia in his final T20 match. At the NCA, he is also having his post-COVID fitness evaluated. Chahar also offers more versatility with the bat, as both of his international appearances this year resulted in scores of 30 or more.
