This win takes India’s medal tally to six, including four gold medals, in the competition, reinforcing its position at the top of the medal table.

Tomar, who won gold at the Changwon World Cup last year, defeated Alexander Schmirl of Austria in the final with a score of 16-2. In the ranking round, Tomar scored 406.4 points and finished second, while Shmirel finished first with 407.9 points. In the qualifying round, Tomar secured the first position with a score of 588 points, while another Indian shooter, Akhil Sheoran, secured second place with 587 points.

Tomar said after the competition that he had failed to perform well twice before on this shooting range, so this time he was determined to win a medal. In the qualification round, Tomar scored 20 points in kneeling, prone, and standing positions to qualify for the ranking round with his partner Sharon. In the ranking round, both Indian players had a slow start, with Tomar in sixth position and Sharon in eighth position at one point. However, Tomar improved his game and secured the second position.

Akhil Sheoran’s strong showing in the event
After 10 shots in the prone position, Sharon was second and Tomar was fifth. Sharon’s position later dropped to fifth and then seventh, putting him out of medal contention. Meanwhile, Tomar’s position improved, and he secured the second position. The gold medal match between Tomar and Shmirel was a tough competition at the beginning, with the score tied at 4-4 and then 6-6. However, Tomar showed a great game after this and won the gold medal.
