Eoin Morgan: On Monday, former England white-ball cricket captain Eoin Morgan announced his departure from all forms of the sport. Throughout his career as a player for England, Morgan achieved great success, including wins in both the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup.

Eoin Morgan takes up retirement from all forms of cricket

Last year, he had already announced his retirement from international cricket. Under his leadership, the national team saw 118 victories in a record 126 ODIs and 72 T20s. In the Indian Premier League, Morgan was a successful player, where he contributed significantly to the victory of Kolkata Knight Riders to the championship in the 2011-12 season. However, he suffered a defeat in the final in 2021 as the team’s captain, when they faced the Chennai Super Kings.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a statement, which read, “It is with great pride that I am announcing my retirement from all forms of cricket. After much deliberation, I believe that now is the right time to step away from the game that has given me so much over the years. From moving to England in 2005 to join Middlesex, right up to the very end, playing for Paarl Royals in SA20, I have cherished every moment.”

What did Eoin Morgan say?

He also added, “Since my retirement from international cricket, I have been able to spend more time with loved ones, and I looked forward to being able to do so more and more in the future. Having said that, I will undoubtedly miss the adventure and challenges of playing professional cricket.”

Before being called up by England in 2009, the Dublin Born Morgan made his ODI debut with Ireland at the age of 16. From 2006 to 2022, Morgan took part in 115 T20Is, 248 ODIs, and 16 Tests. He amassed 2458 runs in T20I and 7701 runs in ODI. In 16 Tests, he’s scored 700 runs.
