Federer will stay out of Australian Open as well

Six-time champion Roger Federer will also miss the first Grand Slam tournament of the year at the Australian Open due to two operations of his right knee. Federer is practicing in Dubai. He has not played any tournament since the Australian Open 2020.

Federer’s longtime agent, Tony Godsick, said the 20-time Grand Slam champions are planning to return to the ATP Tour after the Australian Open and are busy preparing a 2021 tennis calendar for them.

Godsik told the Associated Press, ‘Roger has decided not to play in the 2021 Australian Open. However, he has made good progress in the last two months in terms of his knee and fitness.

He said, “But after discussions with his team, he decided to make a strong comeback to competitive tennis after the Australian Open.”

The Australian Open main draw matches will begin three weeks later due to the coronavirus epidemic. The tournament will now be played at Melbourne Park from 8 February.
