FIFA deletes Messi’s ‘GOAT’ tweet after facing flak by Ronaldo fans

FIFA: Lionel Messi ended his FIFA World Cup trophy quest last Sunday. Argentina beat France in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in the penalty shootout. Messi and Argentina fans evoked to emotions from across all corners of the world and the ‘GOAT’ debate had become a narrative yet again.

Many on social media said the ‘GOAT debate’ between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has been settled’ after Argentina won the FIFA World Cup.

A similar tweet was put out by FIFA on its Twitter handle.

“The GOAT debate is settled. The ultimate prize is now part of the collection. The legacy is complete,” the tweet read.

Not many would have expected FIFA to post that from its official handle. As expected, FIFA got a lot of flak for not maintaining a neutral approach. Since then, FIFA has deleted the tweet.

Later after facing huge flak, FIFA deleted the Tweeted.

Messi Was A Trend On The Internet

Messi was the trend on the internet during the final as he earlier announced that it was the last game of his career. He also scored two goals in the match and didn’t miss the goalpost during the penalty shootout.

But post-victory, Messi differed from his retirement stand and announced he will play a few more games as World Champion.

“No, I won’t retire. I want to keep playing as world champions with the Argentina jersey,” Messi said after grabbing the cup.
