FIFA World Cup: Egypt beats Belgium in the final warm-up game

FIFA World Cup: Roberto Martinez’s team’s shocking 2-1 loss to Egypt on Friday put a damper on Belgium’s World Cup preparations.

The African team, who had just barely missed qualifying for the tournament in Qatar, was on a mission against Belgium, one of the World Cup’s top favourites.
Egypt’s goals came from Mostafa Mohamed and Mahmoud Trezeguet, and Belgium’s consolation goal came from Lois Openda.

Egypt seized the lead in the 33rd minute

After Kevin de Bruyne of Belgium made a mistake, Egypt seized the lead in the 33rd minute. Just outside of his own penalty area, the Manchester City midfielder was taken out of the game by Mohamed, who made no mistakes in giving Egypt the lead.

Although Martinez’s team enjoyed more possession than their opponents during the match, they were unable to capitalise on it as Egypt maintained the advantage at the break.

Trezeguet converted a brilliant ball from Salah to give Egypt a two-goal lead

In the 46th minute, Trezeguet converted a brilliant ball from Salah to give Egypt a two-goal lead. This was the game’s exciting start.

After being compelled to use every available weapon against the African team, Belgium scored a goal back in the 76th minute. Yannick Carrasco set up Openda as the European team attempted to get back into the game.

Four minutes later, Carrasco was given a significant opportunity to tie the game. The Atletico Madrid player, however, squandered his chance, and the final score remained 2-1.

Belgium made a number of adjustments in order to draw even, but they lacked any sort of cohesion or rhythm against Egypt.

As the warm-up games drew to a finish before the World Cup begins on Sunday, Salah and his team were able to hold to win the game in the end.

On Wednesday of next week, Belgium will play Canada in the tournament opener.
