Gerard Pique: Star player for Barcelona, Gerard Pique, announced his retirement on Thursday. Taking to Twitter, the 35-year old wrote "Saturday's match (against Almeria) will be my last at the Camp Nou.” In addition to winning the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with Spain, the defender retires with three Champions League trophies for his club.

The star was seen in a video clip looking at pictures of himself as a young child wearing the Barcelona shirt and pursuing autographs. He said, "I wanted to tell you that I've decided the moment has come to end this journey.”

Continuing further, he said, "There's no other team after Barca. I'm going to become a super fan, I'll be supporting the team and pass on my love for Barca to my son. And sooner or later, I'll be back," he concluded.

Pique left his hometown for Manchester United's academy in 2004 and arrived at the Camp Nou at the age of ten. In 2008, under the leadership of Alex Ferguson, he won his first Champions League trophy. In 2009, 2011, and 2015, he won three Champions League championships with Barcelona after moving back to Catalonia. He also helped Barca win eight La Liga championships, seven Copas del Rey championships, and two Copas del Rey crowns.

Shakira, a Colombian pop singer, was formerly married to Pique. Shakira and Pique made the announcement that their lengthy relationship—which had lasted more than ten years—was coming to an end in June.

One of the most well-known figures in the global music business, the 45-year-old "Hips don't Lie" singer has sold more than 60 million albums. Living together on the suburbs of Barcelona for years, the couple has two boys.
