GG vs UPW WPL 2023: UP Warriorz have defeated Gujarat Giants in a thrilling contest at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai by three wickets. With the victory, they have also stormed into the playoff stage, along with Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Gujarat Giants batted first after winning the toss and scored 178 runs, and the UPW chased down the target within 19.5 overs, thanks to valiant knocks from McGrath (57 off 38) and Grace Harris (72 off 41).

This was also the last match of the tournament for Gujarat Giants. They ended up the maiden season with 2 victories and 6 losses, at the bottom of the points table. Furthermore, every hope of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) reaching the playoff has also dashed with this match.

UP Warriorz into WPL 2023 playoffs

Coming to chase, Gujarat Giants had to deal with a bad start as the top order completely failed to put a mark. Captain Allysa Healy was the first to be dismissed with a score of 12 off 8 balls. Devika Vaidya and Kiran Navgire followed soon after, scoring 7 & 4 respectively. Then, Tahlia McGrath showed resistance and scored 57 off 38 balls, hitting 11 boundaries.

Eventually, it was Grace Harris who once again took the team to cross the boundary line as she played a brave knock of 72 runs off 41 balls, smashing seven boundaries and four maximums in her knock. Ecclestone smashed 15 off 12 balls. Kim Garth grabbed a couple of wickets while Monica Patel, Ashleigh Gardner, Tanuja, and Sneh Rana picked a wicket each.

Hemalatha and Gardner’s valiant knocks

Earlier, Sneh Rana won the toss and opted to bat first in the game. Gardner led the batting charge as she emerged as the highest scorer for the team with 60 runs off 39 balls, hitting six boundaries and three maximums. Hemalatha scored 57 runs off 33 balls, playing at a strike rate of 172.73, hitting six boundaries and three sixes as well.

Opener Dunkley scored 23 off 13 balls, while no other batter could do much significant. Gayakwad and Parshavi Chopra grabbed a couple of wickets while Anjali Sarvani and Ecclestone took a wicket each. The side posted 178/6 in 20 overs.
