A 12-year-old girl from Nagpur named Trisha Bijwe almost died in Manali after a badly bad zipline accident. She is said to have fallen nearly 30 feet to the rocks below when the rope on her belt broke in the middle of the ride. This scary fall was caught on video and quickly went viral on social media. It made people in India very worried about how safe outdoor sports really are.
Trisha was on vacation with her family in Manali at the time of the event. Witnesses said they heard a loud snap just before she fell. Many people saw the video on X (formerly Twitter), which was popularized by writer Nikhil Saini. It made people very angry at the local government and operators. "It's not safe to do adventure sports in India." Not enough checks. "Things only get done after people get hurt or die," Saini said.
After the fall, Trisha was taken to a nearby hospital right away. She was then sent to a specialty center for surgery. Prafull Bijwe, her father, said that she is now safe but that she has broken legs and other injuries.
The family said that the people who ran the zipline weren't careful because the equipment was broken and there was no one to help them in an emergency. At the scene, witnesses said there was a lot of fear, and there were no medics on hand right away. On the other hand, it is said that the owners made a secret deal with the family.
The local police and the tourism department in Himachal Pradesh are looking into what happened. A nearby DSP said, "We are going over all of the adventure sports operators' safety rules."
A lot of people go to Manali, a well-known hill town, to do fun things like paragliding and ziplining. A lot of people come to visit every year. But people who are against it say that safety checks aren't always done and that a lot of workers don't have the right training or credentials.
Tourism experts want immediate changes, like regular checks, license requirements, and making sure that everyone who takes part has insurance.
There have been times like this before, and it might happen again unless the system is changed in a big way. India's adventure tourism business is growing. The government and private companies should both make sure that tourists, especially kids, are safe.
