ICC T20 World Cup 2024: After weeks of waiting, BCCI has finally announced the 15-man Indian team squad for the upcoming tournament. The squad looks strong and promises and there are no surprises except one.
Rinku Singh, who has been on the form of his life has been dropped from the 15-man squad and is in the reserves. Shubman Gill was also not selected in the first 15 and is in the reserves as well alongside Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.
There are many returning faces as well that will delight the fans. Sanju Samson has been rewarded for his astonishing IPL 2024 so far. Yuzevendra Chahal has also returned to the squad after a very long time. But the biggest inclusion is of Rishabh Pant, who will be back in the national side after 2 years.
The 15-Man Squad
Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. Virat Kohli and Surya Kumar Yadav alongside Yashaswi Jaiswal will form the top order. Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Chahal will be the spinners. Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will for the pace lineup.
Indian Squad: Rohit Sharma(C), Virat Kohli, Yashaswi Jaiswal, SK Yadav, RishabhPant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
There was no place for KL Rahul and Ravi Bishnoi in the squad. Shivam Dube has been selected and will likely fill the finisher role. The only surprise is the exclusion of Rinku Singh who has been phenomenal. Rinku has an average of 89 in T20i for India so it was a very big surprise.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Press Conference
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will hold a press conference on May 2, 4 PM. The duo will address all the questions regarding the tournament and squad announcement.
