Pakistan's exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was as much as disastrous as it was peculiar. On paper, this is one of the best T20i sides in the world. World-class batters, a deadly pace attack, and an elite coach like Gary Kirsten.
Many experts and fans have latched on to the team after their exit. Blaming the players, demanding an overhaul, and demanding Babar Azam be stripped of the captaincy. But no one could actually figure out the exact reason for this humiliation.
Current Pakistani player Imad Wasim has cited his opinion and stated that this is a mindset problem. He stated that the Pakistan team used to rule T20i cricket, but has fallen off because of the regressive mindset.
"We Have To Change"
The all-rounder stated his personal opinion and said that the Pakistan team needs to change its mindset to compete against the world's best. He stated that they should play fire-with-fire and adapt according to the game.
"It’s all your mindset. What mindset do you want to play the game with? I believe that you should play fire with fire. And even if you lose, you can sit down and say to yourself that on that day we were not good enough."
He further stated "The problem is our team is so good, our players are so good, that we are good enough to play any kind of cricket. We haven’t tried that but the thing is you have to try that, you have to get rid of the fear of failure."
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: We Used To Rule!
Imad stated that demanding personnel change after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 exit will get you nothing. According to him, changing players and staff will be useless until the team changes its mindset.
He further stated "We compete with the world’s best teams. Their mindset has changed over time. We used to rule in T20 cricket. I think we have moved back a little now."
He also clarified that the Pakistan team is very disappointed with their performance. The all-rounder also urged the fans to not be so brutal as the players are affected more by their performances and they can also make mistakes.
