ICC World Cup Qualifiers: In the third match of ICC World Cup qualifiers 2023, Sri Lanka throttled UAE on the back of an amazing all-around performance by Wanidu Hasaranga. The tournament favorite Sri Lanka defeated UAE by 175 runs and got on top of Group B.
This was Sri Lanka’s first group-stage match in the World Cup qualifiers, and they showed everyone why they are the sure thing in this qualifier to qualify for the World Cup. It was a completely dominating performance by the Lions.
A Batting Clinic
While batting first, Sri Lanka put on a batting clinic and scored a mammoth total of 355/6 in 50 overs. Both openers Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne scored half-centuries, followed by a brilliant 78 by Kusal Mendis.
Sadeera Samarawickrama also scored a quick 73, and Charith Asalanka’s 48 of 23 balls gave Sri Lanka the ending they wanted. Wanindu Hasaranga also played a quick-fire inning of 23 in just 12 balls and remained not out alongside Asalanka.

Hasaranga Storm
The storm of runs was followed by a sensational spell by Hasaranga. He took 6 wickets in 8 overs he bowled while giving only 24 runs in that spell. Lahiru Kumara, Maheesh Theekshana, and Dhananjaya de Silva took 1 wicket each.
Top Of the Group
With this victory, Sri Lanka is top in Group B and is looking completely on track to qualify for Super Six. Their path has become easy as Ireland got defeated by Oman in the 4th match of the ICC World Cup qualifiers.
