IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli took an exceptional catch during India vs. Australia Cricket World Cup 2023 match at Chepauk on October 8. In the scorching Chennai heat, Australia chose to bat first after winning the toss. The early wicket India needed came courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah, who induced an outside edge from opener Mitchell Marsh’s bat. Kohli’s stunning catch added to the excitement.
Virat Kohli pulls off a stunner
On the second ball of the third over, Bumrah’s confusing delivery forced Marsh (0 off 6) into an errant shot, resulting in an outside edge, and Kohli, stationed at the first slip, executed a remarkable catch by leaping to his non-dominant side. This catch marked India’s first wicket celebration at the World Cup, and it also secured Virat Kohli’s position as India’s top fielder in World Cup history in terms of catches taken.
Virat Kohli has set a new record by taking 15 catches as a fielder in ODI World Cups, making him the highest-catch taker for India in this prestigious tournament. Shubman Gill has missed out from the match as he is suffering from dengue. As of writing this, Australian team has scored 36 runs in 9 overs while losing a single wicket.
