IND vs BAN: Bangladesh entered the Test series against India brimming with confidence after their historic victory in Pakistan. However, they soon encountered a much stronger force as India clinched a comprehensive 280-run win in the first Test in Chennai, going up 1-0.
India's All-round Display Dominates Bangladesh
India vs Bangladesh contests are always intriguing, but this time India’s dominance was evident throughout the match. Ravichandran Ashwin’s heroic all-round performance, supported by Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, helped India wrap up the match in just three days and a session. Ashwin's brilliant century, followed by a five-wicket haul, marked the fourth time in his career he achieved this extraordinary feat.
Despite being on the back foot in the first innings at 144/6, India bounced back strong. A record-breaking 199-run partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja helped India post a respectable 376. Bangladesh’s bowlers, who had previously celebrated their triumph against Pakistan, couldn’t withstand India's resilience on a challenging Chennai pitch.
Bangladesh’s Spirited Resistance Fizzles Out
Chasing a mammoth 515, Bangladesh showed some fight in their second innings, improving on their first-innings score of 149. Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam gave the visitors a solid start, but India’s bowlers quickly tightened their grip. Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin dismissed the openers before captain Najmul Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan provided some resistance. However, Ashwin's devastating spells, coupled with Jadeja’s precise bowling, dismantled Bangladesh's batting, ending their innings at 234.
India's Winning Streak at Home Continues
With this victory, India extended their remarkable run of unbeaten home Test series that started in 2012. The team's consistency, combined with stellar performances from key players, continues to make them formidable opponents at home.
