IND vs SA 2nd ODI: On October 9, 2022, Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed took Janneman Malan out in his first ODI at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium Complex, giving him his maiden international wicket. The match was the second ODI between India and South Africa.

Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for 5 runs after being hit for a four on the opening ball of the game, giving India a strong start to their innings. After that, Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks added 37 runs for the second wicket to help stabilise the score a little.

Was given Not-Out by the on-field umpire

However, Shikhar Dhawan threw a wrench in the works by introducing Shahbaz Ahmed to the attack and bowling at the other end with Avesh Khan. As pressure increased from both ends, the South African batters found things to be difficult to handle.

Despite making his debut in this game, Ahmed bowled excellently for a few overs, keeping an eye on the hitters and not letting them tee off his bowling. Shahbaz eventually picked up his first ODI wicket after giving up 13 runs in his first three overs. Watch video:

The left-armer floated a slow ball on the fifth pitch of the tenth over that evaded Malan’s defence and struck the back pad. Malan was declared not out by the on-field umpire, but Sanju Samson persuaded Shikhar Dhawan to request a review.

Replays revealed that no bat was used, and the ball was pitched in line and headed for the stumps. This allowed India to successfully appeal, and Janneman Malan turned around.
