IND vs SA, T20 World Cup: Can Pant replace Rahul as opener vs South Africa? Team India batting coach replies

India opener and vice-captain KL Rahul might not ne in his best form but the team management has cleared all the doubts and said that they are going to back him. In the first two matches, Rahul’s poor form might not been in the spotlight because the team is winning so far but his inability to score runs in pressure situation is a matter of concern.

Team India batting coach has made it clear that they are not going to replace Rahul and piace open the option of Rishabh Pant in the lineup.

Vikram Rathour said Rahul is in a good zone and there’s no point of replacing him right now.

Replying to a question on Pant over Rahul, Rathour said: “No, we’re not really thinking that. Two games, I don’t think that’s a good enough sample size anyways. He’s been batting really well and he’s batted really well in the practice games, also, so we’re not looking at any such thing at the moment.”

Rathour also backed Team India’s new batting approach that is in the headlines since post-IPL.

“We are looking to adapt. Of course, playing with intent is always the goal. We are looking to score runs whenever we can. But then we need to keep in account the conditions that we are playing on, the surfaces we are playing on.

“I don’t think these are 200, 200-plus wickets, so we’ll need to adapt, and I think we have done pretty well in that regard so far,” he added.
