IND vs SL: Indian bowler Mohammed Shami dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka at the non-end striker's with a brilliant run-out on Tuesday, just as the match between India and Sri Lanka was about to come to an uninteresting conclusion for the visitors. India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, took on Sri Lanka in the first One Day International (ODI) of the World Cup year at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, kicking off its preparations for the ICC World Cup 2023.

Rohit Sharma withdraws mankad appeal
Shanaka, the skipper of Sri Lanka, hit a brilliant innings against India in the series opener at Guwahati, leading the visitors to an astonishing comeback in the high-scoring match. In the penultimate over of the thrilling match, speed merchant Shami caught Shanaka short of the crease, who had gained praise for his heroic solo performance in the first ODI. Even though Shami finished the dismissal of the Sri Lankan batter by removing the bails, the hosts decided to end the appeal after a brave intervention from captain Rohit.
Shami had mankad Shanaka but skipper Rohit showed some great sportsmanship as he decided to withdraw the appeal and let the star batter continue to bat. Many have praised Rohit for demonstrating such a sporting spirit.

The series opener on Tuesday saw Shanaka score an outstanding century against India. Sri Lanka reached 306-8 in 50 overs, with the skipper remaining unbeaten on 108 off 88 balls. Shanaka's effort, though, went in vain as India, powered by Virat Kohli, beat the visitors by a score of 67 runs. Team India, captained by Rohit, now leads the three-match series 1-0 after the comprehensive victory against Sri Lanka.
