IND vs SL: The third and final ODI at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram is currently underway. Virat Kohli, the modern-day great of cricket has broken one more big record in the history of ODI. The star player has now become the fifth-highest run scorer in the history of format beating Sri Lankan Legend Mahela Jayawardene.
Sri Lankan legend has 12650 runs to his name in 418 innings and the chase master King Kohli has gone past him in just 259 innings. The gap between the number of innings is way too intriguing for every cricket enthusiast. Before the match, Virat Kohli needed 63 runs to surpass Mahela and he has achieved the feat finally. Prior to the match, Kohli had 12588 runs in 258 innings. Fans were speculating that he would break this record in this series itself and he has done that.
The fact that Kohli hasn't been able to lead his side to an ICC championship has drawn a lot of criticism, but he also has a number of records that are beyond the scope of most players, and he hasn't stopped yet.
In the first one-day match in Guwahati, Virat Kohli scored a century against Sri Lanka, but after being dismissed for just four runs, he wasn't able to significantly raise India's score. Kohli became the batter with the most century at home after scoring 113 runs in the opening ODI. He presently has 20 of them in India, and with hitting 9 tonnes against the visitors, he also beat the previous record for the most centuries ever scored against a single country.
Virat Kohli currently has 45 ODI centuries to his name and is away only behind Sachin Tendulkar who has scored 49. There are high chances that Virat will top that elite list by the ODI World Cup 2023.
