Suryakumar Yadav smashed third T20I tonne

In a period of six months, this was Suryakumar’s third T20I tonne. His first century came against England at Nottingham in July of last year. SKY’s 117 was in vain as India lost by a slim margin in a nail-biting thriller. In November at Mount Maunganui, he backed it up with another stunning tonne to go along with last night’s further unbeaten inning. Suryakumar acknowledged how simple it is to play for him under Rahul Dravid after winning Player of the Match for his effort.

During the post-match ceremony, Suryakumar said “It’s really important to put pressure on yourself when you are preparing for a game. If you do that in practice, it gets a little easier while playing the game. There is a lot of hard work involved but it’s about doing quality practice sessions. You should know what your game is and prepare accordingly. Boundaries behind are like 50-60 meters, so I was targeting them.”

India put on a strong display with the bat, which was anchored by Suryakumar and included sizable contributions from a few other young players. Rahul Tripathi smashed a quickfire 35-run knock off 16 deliveries, smashing five fours and two sixes, while Shubman Gill scored a run-per-ball 46, just missing out on a half-century with two fours and three sixes. Despite taking two wickets for Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka was beaten for 55 runs in just four overs.

Captain Dasun Shanaka led Sri Lanka in scoring with 23 runs off of 17 balls. Arshdeep Singh, who had a disappointing performance in the last game, was in excellent form for India and took three wickets in 2.4 overs.
