IBSA World Games: The India Blind Cricket Team (Women) achieved a historic feat by defeating the Australian team in the rain-affected final match of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023 to secure the gold medal. Their significant achievement has now raked in appreciation from President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other leading politicians and athletes.
India Blind Women Cricket team secures gold
India effectively restricted Australia to a score of 114/8 within the designated 20 overs. Subsequently, due to weather conditions, the target was adjusted to 42 runs, and India successfully achieved this in just four overs. Blind cricket made its debut in the IBSA World Games recently, featuring classic rivals England and Australia in the inaugural match. In a historic moment for visually impaired women's cricket, India emerged victorious against Australia by 9 wickets in the final.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia faced early setbacks as they lost their first wicket in the 4th over. Struggling to cope with the pressure of a final in a prestigious global sporting event, Australia found it challenging to build momentum, managing a mere 29 runs during the powerplay phase.
India made crucial breakthroughs in the eighth and ninth overs, adding to the pressure on the Australian side. Despite a partnership of 54 runs between C Lewis and C Webeck, which helped Australia reach a competitive total, India regained control by taking wickets consistently. This led to Australia's score being to 109/8.
Pursuing a revised target of 42 runs, India showcased an aggressive display of batting, consistently hitting the Australian bowlers to all parts of the field. Throughout the chase, the Indian team appeared unwavering and confident, effortlessly securing victory in a mere 3.3 overs.
