Indian Archers Shine at 2023 Asian Games, Secure Multiple Gold Medals

Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale emerged as standout performers at the 2023 Asian Games, securing three gold medals each in the compound archery events. India’s total medal count at the games reached 107, surpassing the target of 100 set for the contingent at the beginning of the Hangzhou edition.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam secured her third gold medal in Hangzhou by defeating Republic of Korea’s So Chaewon in the women’s individual final with a commanding score of 149-145. She had previously won gold medals in the Compound Women’s Team event and Compound Women’s Mixed Team competition.

India continued to add to its medal tally on Day 14 of the Asian Games

Ojas Pravin Deotale, the reigning World Champion, added the Asian Games title to his achievements by winning the Compound Men’s Individual archery competition. He clinched the gold medal by defeating compatriot Abhishek Verma with a score of 149-147 in the final. Ojas had earlier secured gold medals in the Compound Men’s Team and Compound Mixed Team events.

Deotale, a 21-year-old archer from Nagpur, Maharashtra, who had won the World Championship in Berlin earlier in the year, displayed exceptional skill during the competition. Despite a score of nine in the second arrow of the fourth round, he maintained his lead and secured the gold medal. Verma put up a strong performance but fell short of overtaking Deotale, who shot a perfect 30 in the final round.

India continued to add to its medal tally on Day 14 of the Asian Games, with the women’s kabaddi team, men’s kabaddi team, cricket team, Satwik and Chirag in mixed doubles badminton, and Deepak Punia in wrestling also winning medals. Additionally, the men’s and women’s chess teams secured silver medals, contributing to India’s successful campaign at the games.
