IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan becomes most expensive TNPL player, bags more money than IPL, details here

IPL 2023: Sai Sudharsan, the all-rounder from Tamil Nadu, made history as the costliest purchase in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) auction for its upcoming eighth edition. The TNPL has switched from its draft system and adopted an auction format similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. Sudharsan was bought by Lyca Kovai Kings for a staggering Rs. 21.6 lakhs, which is more than what he earns from Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 season.

Sai Sudharsan IPL 2023 price

During the IPL Mega Auction held in 2022, there was only one bid placed for Sudharsan, and that came from his then-current team Gujarat Titans. With no other takers, Sudharsan was bought for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. He played five matches in IPL 2022, scoring 145 runs, including a half-century. However, in the upcoming TNPL, Sudharsan is expected to have a more significant role as he joins Lyca Kovai Kings. GT had acquired Sudharsan for Rs. 20 lakhs in the previous IPL auction.

Along with Sudharsan, other cricketers who made big earnings at the TNPL Auction 2023 include R Sai Kishore, who was bought by Tiruppur Tamizhans for Rs 13 lakh, Murugan Ashwin, who was acquired by Madurai Panthers for Rs 6.40 lakh, and Arun Karthik, who will play for Nellai Royal Kings after being bought for Rs 12 lakh.

Sai Sudharsan Career

Sudharsan is expected to have a more prominent role in the upcoming IPL season as Gujarat Titans defend their title. Hardik Pandya will likely leverage Sudharsan’s talent to the fullest extent in IPL 2023.

A brief look at Sudharsan’s career shows that he has played 7 matches and scored 572 runs for Tamil Nadu. He has also played in 11 List A matches, accumulating 664 runs with an average of 60.36. In 18 T20 matches, the left-handed batter has scored 497 runs at an average of 33.13.
