At Chepauk, former CSK captain Dhoni, popularly known by the nickname Thala, gave his old IPL opponent Gautam Gambhir a heartfelt embrace. The Kolkata Knight Riders coach grinned broadly as he greeted Dhoni at the historic arena after Kolkata’s opening loss of the current campaign.
CSK’s Spectacular Finish at Chepauk
Giving the supporters exactly what they had always wanted, Dhoni made sure that, in match No. 22 of the IPL 2024 between CSK and KKR, a crowded Chepauk witnessed his spectacular arrival as a finisher. With a 20-over match to chase down a subpar 138-run target, Dhoni’s replacement Ruturaj Gaikwad put CSK ahead with an outstanding half-century.
The Yellow Brigade’s leading scorer was Gaikwad (67*), while power hitters Shivam Dube (28) and Daryl Mitchell (25) made significant cameos to put CSK on the cusp of a historic victory over KKR.
