The IPL 2024 final is more than just a battle between two teams for a trophy. It is not just proving which team has been best for the past 2 months, for their captains it holds more significance than anything else.
On one side, we have the golden boy of cricket. Pat Cummins who has won everything he has touched. He has the opportunity to win this tournament and prove to everyone he can do it in the shortest format too.
On the other hand, it is Shreyas Iyer who has something to prove himself. After getting removed from the BCCI contract(Even after a godly World Cup), it is his time to prove everyone wrong.
So, once again, it is not just about trophies. These two sides have revolutionized T20 cricket in the past 2 months. And both these individuals would like to be at the top after the finals.
IPL 2024 For The Golden Boy
It has been Pat Cummins' era for sure. Australia had the opportunity to become the first triple crown champion in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and no one knew it was possible a few years ago. Cummins led his side to glory twice, both times against India and one time in their own backyard.
A decade ago, no one could have thought that Cummins would win The Ashes, The World Cup, and the World Test Championship in just 6 months. But he has done it and winning IPL 2024 will prove every critic wrong. Every critic thinks that he is not suitable for T20 cricket and can't lead his side in the shortest format of the game.
Matter Of Respect
For Shreyas Iyer, things have been more complicated in the past few months. After a sensational World Cup campaign, things have been downhill for him. He was not able to perform at all in the England test series. And after that, he was removed from the Central BCCI contract. He had to play domestic cricket to prove himself again, yet he did not succeed.
For him, this IPL final is a statement. A statement that says that he deserves to be in India's white-ball squad. He deserves that BCCI central contract. Fans are talking about Gautam Gambhir as the main commander of the team. But don't forget the man who is driving the chariot is none other than Iyer himself.
