Is this the end of Cristiano Ronaldo? Star player posts a cryptic message, says “I have given my all”

Cristiano Ronaldo: In a puzzling social media message, Cristiano Ronaldo hinted that his dream of winning Portugal win the World Cup was over but he did not go so far as to say that he was quitting international competition.

After Portugal’s 1-0 quarterfinal defeat to Morocco on Saturday, the 37-year-old Ronaldo sobbed his way off the field. After 19 years in the national team, Ronaldo said on Sunday that it was “time to take stock” in his first remarks following the elimination. However, he did not state specifically if he wants to continue being available for Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo pens an emotional note

Taking to Instagram, Ronaldo wrote, “There’s no point in reacting rashly, I just want everybody to know that a lot has been said, a lot has been written, a lot has been speculated about, but my dedication to Portugal has never wavered for an instant.

“I’ve always been just one more (Portuguese) fighting for everyone’s goal. I would never turn my back on my teammates or my country.” Ronaldo, the all-time leading scorer in men’s international soccer with 118 goals, stated that his greatest desire was to elevate Portugal to “the highest level in the world.”

Continuing further Ronaldo wrote, “In my five appearances at World Cups over 16 years, always playing alongside great players and supported by millions of Portuguese, I have given my all. I left everything I had on the pitch. I’ll never shrink from a battle and I have never given up on that dream.”

“Unfortunately, that dream ended yesterday.” Ronaldo said he would now “let everyone draw their own conclusions.”

“For now. There’s not much else to say. Thank you, Portugal. Thank you, Qatar. The dream was beautiful as long as it lasted.” Now, In 2024, the European Championship will be the only major competition. Ronaldo will be 41 years old by the time of the 2026 World Cup, which will be played in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Ronaldo’s controversial interview

Because of an controversial interview he gave before the World Cup in which he criticised the English club’s manager, board, and teammates, Ronaldo left Manchester United during the tournament and is currently without a club. In Portugal’s first group game against Ghana, he scored only once during the World Cup, on a penalty. However, he also became the first player to score int he five world cups.

With the exception of Portugal’s 6-1 triumph against Switzerland in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, Ronaldo began both matches on the bench.
