Asian Champions Trophy 2023: Japan’s teams are known for cleaning their dressing room across the sports tournaments after their match ends. Once again, as soon as their game in the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 was over on August 7, Monday, the Japan hockey team cleaned up their dressing room. Despite losing to Malaysia 3-1 in the round-robin match, they received well-deserved praise for their honourable response to defeat.

Malaysia dominates Japan
The match took place at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai, India. However, the performance on the field was below par for the team they are known for. In the 13th minute, their Southeastern Asian opponents’ Jazlan Najmi converted a penalty corner to goal as they suffered their first setback of the game.
Japan had their work cut out for them to make a comeback at the interval with the score in favour of Malaysia at 1-0. Although they were a man up on the hockey field, they let up a field goal to Hasan Azuan in the 37th second of the third quarter. Silverius Shello’s field goal in the 59th second gave Malaysia the crucial three points in the fourth and deciding quarter. Niwa Takuma scored the first goal for Japan seconds later, but his efforts were far from sufficient for the side to make a dent in the score.
Following the end of the one-sided match, Hockey India posted on their official Twitter account about the Japanese team’s locker room, which they described as being spotless. The caption read, “How the Japanese leave their dressing room after every match. Sparkling Clean.”

India defeated South Korea 3-2 in one of the other matches of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023, securing a spot in the semi-final with one round-robin encounter remaining. In order to maintain their chances of making it to the tournament’s semifinals, Pakistan also defeated China in the preceding game by a score of 2-1.
