Joe Root becomes England all-time leading run-scorer as captain

England Test skipper Joe Root has surpassed Aliastair Cook to become his nation’s leading run-scorer as captain in the longest format of the game.

Root has surpassed Cook’s record of 4844 runs as Test captain in the ongoing second Test Ashes Test against Australia at the Adelaide Stadium.

Root is currently No.1 Test batter and has bee in subline form in 2021 as he is the leading run-scorer of the year.

“Another one gone to Joe Root – I haven’t got many left. He’s slowly but surely edging his way into England’s greatest batsman and he is pretty much there,” said Cook on BT Sport.

England are struggling in the ongoing second Test as they were at 82/4 at the end of Day 4 in the chase of 468 runs.
