Unique records by Kapil Dev

India's squad was captained by Kapil Dev in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, which was held in England. India only had a remote chance of winning the World Cup. But Kapil and his team overcame all odds to defeat the West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final, which was held at Lord's. Kapil became the first Indian captain to win a World Cup title with the victory.

5. The highest score by a batsman starting at slot no. 6 in ODI cricket history is Kapil Dev's legendary 175 not out against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.

4. Kapil Dev holds the record for taking the most Test wickets in a single year. Fast bowler Kapil set the record in 1983 by taking 75 wickets in 18 games.

3. In 17 Test matches in 1979, Kapil Dev scored 619 runs and took 74 wickets. He is the only cricketer in history to have amassed 600 runs and taken 70 wickets in the same calendar year, making him the first Test player to do so.

2. Kapil Dev was the first Indian bowler to reach 400 test wickets. In a Test match against the West Indies at Ahmedabad, he once had a 9/83 bowling performance. The outstanding all-rounder sets a new record with that stint for the best numbers in an innings by a skipper.

1. In his career in one-day internationals, Kapil Dev amassed 3783 runs, grabbed 253 wickets, and made 71 catches. The list of cricketers with more than 1000 runs, 50 wickets, and 50 catches in ODIs has him in the second position, just behind Viv Richards.
