After winning the selection, Kolkata Knight Riders invited Lucknow Super Giants to bat. Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran overcame a very poor start to put together a partnership of more than 50 runs, forcing the KKR bowlers to reconsider their strategy before approaching the batting order. With his maximum hits, Nicholas Pooran helped Lucknow Super Giants gain the upper hand, however he lost his wicket to Shardul Thakur.
