Lionel Messi: The FIFA World Cup 2022 is about to start from 20 November in Qatar. The 35-year-old Argentina Star will play in his fifth World Cup this year. However, he is still seeking his first title at the showpiece tournament. He admitted that he feels nervous ahead of his last appearance on world soccer’s biggest stage.  

Lionel Messi said in an interview, “There’s some anxiety and nerves at the same time. It is the last one for me.” This is the first time Messi has spoken openly about his future in football. Messi said that this tournament will be his last but he has not spoken clearly about his retirement from the national team after the 2022 World Cup.

“We are not everyone’s favorite”

Argentina is unbeaten in past 35 consecutive matches. They will arrive at the World Cup 2022 with their confidence high after winning the 2021 Copa America final against hosts Brazil. “Anything can happen in World Cup. All the matches are very tough. The favorites don’t always end up winning, I don’t know if we’re the favorite, but Argentina is always a candidate because of its history. Now even more so because of the moment we’re in, but we are not favorites. There are so many teams above us.” 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be last for Messi’s great career.
