MI vs GG WPL 2023: RUTHLESS ! Mumbai Indians defeat Gujarat Giants by 55 runs, clinch FIFTH victory in row

MI vs GG WPL 2023: There’s literally no stopping Mumbai Indians. In their fifth match, which came against Gujarat Giants, they have emerged victorius by 55 runs. Earlier, Gujarat Giants won the toss and opt to bowl first, and despite regular wickets, the Mumbai Indians put 162/8 on board. The chase was expected to be thrilling, however, GG lost opener Sophia Dunkley on first ball and then could not recover as they could muster just 107/9 in 20 overs.

This is now the fifth victory of Mumbai Indians in as many matches. They continue to lead the points table as they have won all their matches so far. They have also qualifed for the playoffs with the victory.

Gujarat Giants’ batters fail to chase

Coming to chase, Gujarat Giants had a dismayed start as they lost opener and star batter Sophia Dunkley on the first ball of the innings. She was dismissed by Sciver Brunt as LBW. Meghana scored 16 off 17, Harleen Deol scored 22 off 23, while Sutherland was out on duck. Gardner could also score just 8 off 10 balls.

Skipper Sneh Rana scored 20 off 19. Sushma Verma scored 18 off 18. None of the other batter could make a significant impact, thus, resulting in failed chase. Hayley Matthews and Sciver Brunt picked three wickets while Amelia Kerr and Issy Wong picked up two and one wickets, respectively.

Fiery knock from Harmanpreet Kaur

Earlier, Mumbai Indians came to bat first after losing the toss. Star opener Hayley Matthews was dismissed for zero runs in the first over. However, Yastika Bhatia then led the charge and scored 44 off 37, hittting five boundaries and a six. Sciver Brunt also played a valiant cameo and scored 36 off 31 balls.

However, in the end, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur once again led the side from the front and scored much needed 51 off 30 balls, hitting seven boundaries and two sixes whereas Amelia Kerr also scored 19 off 13 balls. Gardner picked three wickets while Kim Garth, Sneh Rana, and Tanuja Kanwar picked a wicket as well.
