MI vs UPW WPL 2023: After being undefeated in five games, Mumbai Indians have finally faced their first loss of the tournament. At the DY Patil Stadium, UP Warriorz beat Mumbai Indians by a margin of five wickets. Though a low-scoring match, the clash was thrilling since the fall of wickets at crucial moments could not affirm the winner until the last ball. MI, in the first innings, scored 127-all out in 20 overs and UPW managed to chase it down within 19.3 overs, with crucial knocks from Tahila and Harris.

Team performance by UP Warriorz

Coming to chase, UP Warriroz had a difficult start as they lost their opener Devika for 1 run off 7 balls as the scorecard went 1/1 in 1.1 overs. Tahila McGrath showed resistance and went on to score 38 off 25 balls. Skipper Allysa Healy could muster just 8 off 10 balls. Grace Harris took the charge and scored 39 off 28 balls, hitting seven boundaries.

At the end, Sophie Ecclestone scored 16 off 17 and Deepti scored 13 off 14 to take their team past the winning line. Sciver Brunt, Hayley Matthews, Issy Wong, and picked a wicket each in their spells while Amelia Kerr took two.

Issy Wong’s quick-fire knock

Earlier, Allysa Healy won the toss and opted to bowl first in the clash. Mumbai Indians did not have a good outing with the bat as they posted a low score of 127-all out in 20 overs. Hayley Matthews was the top scorer with 35 off 30 balls, hitting a boundary and three maximums. Later, in the last few overs, Issy Wong made a brave cameo scoring 32 off 19, hitting four boundaries and one six. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was the third-highest scorer with 25 runs off 22 balls. Every other Isfailed to reach even the double-digit mark.

Sophie Ecclestone picked a three wicket haul while giving just 15 runs in her four over spell. Gayakwad and Deppti picked a couple of wickets while Anjali grabbed one as well. Deepti Sharma also struck two stunning runouts in the last couple of balls of the inning.
