MLC 2023: Only Nicolas Pooran can make a target of 184 look small. Only he can make it looks like a child’s play. After all, he is one of the finest hitters in the world right now. And this inning was an answer to everyone who doubted him.
Before coming to this match, MI New York’s captain was under much scrutiny. People started calling him a choker and someone who couldn’t perform under pressure. Well, he proved everyone wrong in style.
West Indies international played the best inning of the inaugural season of MLC 2023, and there could not have been a better time to do that. As he single-handedly led his team toward their first Major League Cricket title.
De Cock Masterclass
Quinton De Cock was completely silent before the knockout stages of the tournament. But he scored a brilliant half-century in Eliminator 1 and once again his skills were on full display as he knocked every ball out of the park.
The South Africa skipper scored 87 runs in 52 deliveries and led his team to a mammoth score of 183/9 in 20 overs. Trent Boult once again proved why he is one of the best bowlers of all time and picked three wickets in his spell. He finished the tournament as the top wicket-taker with 22 wickets.
The Pooran Show
In reply, MI New York lost their first wicket without a run on the scoreboard. But after that, it was completely Nicolas Pooran’s show. He completed his century in just 40 deliveries and became the tournament’s top scorer.
He was not finished yet, as he took the responsibility and finished the game for New York. The wicketkeeper-batsman remained not out on 137 runs in just 55 deliveries with 13 sixes to his name. Other batsmen did not even have to do anything amidst this chaos.
As New York chased down the target in just 16 overs. A final that had the capability to be thrilling was made one-sided by Nicolas Pooran alone. One of the most feared batsmen in the T20 format.
