Youth Women’s National Boxing: Nikita, Kirti advance to final with dominating wins

Asian junior champions Nikita Chand and Kirti continued their impressive run at the ongoing 6th Youth Women’s National Boxing Championships, registering big wins on the fifth day of the competition to enter the finals.

Coming up against Madhya Pradesh’s Khushi Singh in her semifinal bout, Uttarakhand’s Nikita (60kg) was on top of her game and won 5-0 via unanimous decision. Using her agility and precision, she gave opponent no chance to make a comeback.

Nikita, Kirti advance to final with dominating wins

Kirti (81 plus), on the other hand, didn’t break a sweat in her encounter, and her aggressive approach saw her defeat Maharashtra’s Jagruti as the referee stopped the contest (RSC) in the first round.

Nikita will now take on Delhi’s Siya in the final while Kirti will take on Rajasthan’s Nirjhara Baba in a bid to clinch the gold medal.

Asian Junior Championships silver medalist Supriya Devi (54kg) of Manipur continued her run of form with a hard-fought 4-1 win over Uttar Pradesh’s Babita Singh. Now in the final he will face Tanu of Haryana.

In the 50kg category, Haryana’s Anshu proved too strong for Maharashtra’s Khushi Jadhav as the referee stopped the contest (RSC) in the third round. She will enter the ring against Uttar Pradesh’s Chanchal Chowdhary in the final.

Boxers from Haryana have the highest representation in the finals with a total of eight boxers reaching the finals, followed by four boxers from Uttarakhand.
