Former Pakistani cricketer and the last Hindu player to represent the Pakistan cricket team, Danish Kaneria, recently spoke about the hardships he faced while living in Pakistan. Addressing the Congressional Briefing on the 'Plight of Minorities in Pakistan,' Kaneria strongly criticised Pakistan for discrimination, stating that his career was destroyed and that he was denied equal rights. Danish Kaneria, who has been residing in the US, highlighted the struggles faced by minorities in Pakistan.

Danish Kaneria Raises Voice Against Discrimination in Pakistan

During the Congressional Briefing on the 'Plight of Minorities in Pakistan,' Danish Kaneria, the last Hindu cricketer to play internationally for Pakistan, voiced his concerns. He said, "Today, we discussed how we had to go through discrimination. And we raised our voices against all these things. Such things have happened to me. My career was destroyed, and I did not get equal respect in Pakistan. That's why we are here in the USA. We just wanted to spread awareness," ANI quoted Danish Kaneria.

Kaneria’s remarks shed light on the long-standing issue of discrimination against minorities in Pakistan. His statement sparked mixed reactions from social media users, with some supporting his stance and others questioning his claims. One user commented, “Great initiative. To raise awareness globally, there should be similar US Congressional Briefings on the unbearable plight of minority Hindus in East Pakistan aka 'Bangladesh' as well.” Another user, however, countered, “His career is destroyed by fixing, and now he is playing the victim card.”

Danish Kaneria Criticises Pakistan Cricket After ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Exit

Earlier, Danish Kaneria also spoke about a key flaw in Pakistan cricket following their disastrous run in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan, the host nation, became the first team to crash out of the tournament.

Speaking to IANS, Danish Kaneria said, "Pakistan spent a lot of money, built stadiums, but the one thing they should have focused on – the team – they didn’t pay attention to. Pakistan was the host, yet they were the first to be eliminated from the tournament, while India remained unbeaten. Pakistan had to hand the trophy to India, which, in a way, was like the icing on the cake. When the Champions Trophy was announced, Pakistan made a lot of unnecessary noise."

He further added, "They sent a team that should have been knocked out of the tournament much earlier. Pakistan has no good players or team combinations. Their problem is that they never get out of their politics, friendships, and family ties. The Indian team, on the other hand, thinks only about India, and that’s why they are the winners."

Danish Kaneria’s Cricket Career and Lifetime Ban

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria, known for his impressive Test career, was handed a lifetime ban in 2012 by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for his involvement in spot-fixing. Kaneria, a skilled leg-spinner, took 261 wickets in Test matches, maintaining an economy rate of 3.07. His career highlights include 15 five-wicket hauls, showcasing his talent on the field. However, his achievements were overshadowed by the fixing scandal, which led to his permanent exit from professional cricket.
