In a heartbreaking proceedings, Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 and Indian fans are outraged.

Paris Olympics 2024: Vinesh Phogat was on the verge of making history. She was defeating everything coming her way and was fighting against destiny itself to reach the pinnacle.

But alas, she was not able to achieve her dream just because of a mere 100 grams. Yes, Phogat was just 100 grams over the allowed weight limit which resulted in her being disqualified from the event.

From the verge of almost winning gold to going back home empty-handed, the turn of fate has been cruel for Vinesh. It is beyond heartbreaking what has happened as the Indian Olympic Association released its official statement to confirm the news.

Paris Olympics 2024: IOA Statement

“It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning,” the IOA stated.

“She was found overweight by 100gm this morning. The rules do not allow this and she has been disqualified,” an Indian coach told PTI. At night, Vinesh was 2 kg above the allowed weight limit.

The team worked on it and shed most of it but it still was not enough. Vinesh and her team demanded more time but it was to no avail. It was also reported that Hours after being disqualified from the Olympics due to being overweight, Vinesh Phogat was hospitalized on Wednesday due to dehydration.

Fans Outraged

The Indian fans are outraged over how things have proceeded. There is an unofficial Paris Olympics 2024 boycott event on social media by Indian fans. Everyone is heartbroken because every fan knew that this medal meant so much more to Vinesh.
