ODI World Cup 2023: Pat Cummins played the fifth Ashes test match against England with a broken wrist. This shows how gritty and a warrior Australian skipper is. He has always put national duty before himself; this was another example.
The medium pacer was injured on the first day when he landed on his wrist, going for a runout. The skipper was feeling soreness at that point only but kept on playing like he always had.
Cricket Australia has not disclosed the severity of the injury yet, but a possible fracture has not been ruled out. The Australian captain's wrist was wrapped up after the first day, and he felt discomfort, especially during batting.
ODI World Cup 2023 Doubtful?
While the severity of the injury has not been disclosed, a fracture has not been ruled out. Usually, the boards reveal it if there is nothing to worry about. But Cricket Australia has refrained from doing that.
The pacer will miss the South Africa tour for sure and is also looking to miss the India tour right before the World Cup 2023. And if it is a fracture, he can miss the World Cup that will start in October.
Pat Cummins Test Captaincy Record
Pat Cummins has a brilliant record as a test captain and boasts a very positive win rate in the red ball format. Australia won the Ashes 2021/22 under him, and if not for the loss in the last two matches, the Aussies would have won the Ashes 2023 as well.
This World Cup would be his first major tournament as a captain in white ball format. And we hope that he recovers soon, as he is a brilliant player and a strong captain. Steve Smith is most likely to become the captain in his absence.
