Prithvi Shaw: The ongoing dispute between social media influencer Sapna Gill and cricketer Prithvi Shaw seems far from reaching a resolution. On Monday, Gill lodged a complaint against Shaw and his companion Ashish Yadav at Mumbai Airport Police Station, following a brawl that resulted in the windshield of Yadav’s car being damaged during the selfie controversy.
Tussle between Prithvi Shaw and Sapna Gill
This incident occurred after Gill was released on bail by a magistrate and subsequently discharged from Mumbai Police custody. Gill was one of the eight individuals booked by the Oshiwara Police for damaging the vehicle belonging to a friend of Prithvi Shaw. Gill claimed that the Indian cricketer and his friends were the ones who initiated the violence, as they allegedly refused to take selfies when approached by her at a restaurant in Mumbai.
According to reports, the influencer’s complaint has been filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 34 (committing a criminal act with common intention), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 146 (rioting), 148 (armed rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly offence committed in prosecution), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons), 351 (using criminal force), 354 (outraging modesty), and 509 (gesture to outrage modesty in proximity).
What did Sapna Gill say?
In her statement, Sapna Gill claimed that she visited a club on February 15 where she encountered the cricketer, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. According to her complaint, when her friend Shobhit Thakur approached Shaw for a selfie, the cricketer responded violently and forcefully snatched and threw Thakur’s phone, causing significant damage.
Gill, who claimed not to be an avid cricket fan and unaware of Shaw’s identity, intervened when she saw the group allegedly beating up Thakur and pleaded with them to stop assaulting her friend.
According to Sapna Gill’s allegations, during the altercation, Prithvi Shaw allegedly touched her inappropriately and even pushed her. Gill further claimed that she informed Shaw and his friends that she intended to file a police complaint against them. However, when they “literally begged” her not to do so, she decided to show mercy and withhold from filing a case against them.
Gill’s statement suggests that it was solely because of Shaw and his friends’ request that she decided to drop the matter at that time.
Prithvi Shaw filed a case of extortion
In the meantime, it has been reported that Prithvi Shaw has filed a case of extortion against Sapna Gill. Following the registration of the case by Shaw’s friend Yadav, Gill was taken into police custody on February 17. According to her complaint, these events caused a delay in the registration of her complaint.
As of now, it has been reported that Mumbai Airport Police Station has not yet converted Sapna Gill’s complaint into an FIR.
