Kevin Pietersen, the former captain of England and arguably one of the most fascinating players of all time, struggled against spinners, especially left-arm spinners, who frequently interrupted his international cricket career.
Rahul Dravid, the former India captain, is arguably the one of the best batter in the world, so when he needed help to deal with that threat, kevin turned to him. Pietersen and Dravid had a wonderful working frienship while they were teammates for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
When Bangladesh bowlers troubled Kevin Pietersen
The “Three Lions” played a warm-up game before the Test series in 2010 during England’s tour of Bangladesh, and Pietersen had a dismal performance. He could only manage to score 2 and 20 in both innings, and he lost his wickets to spinners on both occasions. They were, respectively, Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan.
He emailed Dravid to provide advice on how to improve his strategy for taking on left-arm spinners, and Dravid, being the gentleman, gladly accepted. He sent KP a lengthy email in which he provided detailed instructions on how to solve the issues he was having and helped him in overcoming them. The World T20 champion continued to emphasise this in his book, KP: The Autobiography.
