Ranji Trophy 2022-23: At their second Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad on Tuesday, December 20, Mumbai got off to a fantastic start thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s gallant comeback to domestic red-ball cricket.

Suryakumar was included to the playing XI for the match against Hyderabad even though his last Ranji Trophy match was in February 2020. In place of captain Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai Indians (MI) batter entered the field to bat at No. 3. He made the most of the opportunity.

Suryakumar Yadav’s brave knock in Ranji Trophy 2022-23

After Prithvi Shaw was out in the fourth over, the talented hitter stepped up and attacked the opposing bowlers with all of his might. He continuously hit runs and prevented the Hyderabad bowlers from settling in.

In his first Ranji game in three years, Suryakumar Yadav hit 90 runs off of 80 balls. Mumbai were in a commanding position at 176/2 when he was out leg before wicket to Mehrotra Shashank, and Yashasvi Jaiswal was giving it her all from the other end. Suryakumar scored 90 runs off only 80 balls.

As Mumbai tries to record a difficult first-innings total, Yashasvi has scored yet another century (batting on 138*) and will aim to make it count alongside Rahane (73*).

Suryakumar Yadav’s much-awaited test debut

Many have pushed the Indian selectors to consider Suryakumar in the red-ball team after his outstanding achievement in white-ball cricket over the past two years. “I feel I’m close. I have played this format. I have an idea of red-ball cricket because we all start from red-ball cricket. Yes, conditions are challenging but if you can apply your mind and alter your game, you can succeed.”

After multiple injury worries in the Indian team, he was previously included in the Test squad for the five-match series against England in 2021, but he didn’t get the chance to play.

In 77 first-class games of red-ball cricket, Suryakumar scored 5326 runs at an average of 44.01, with 14 hundreds and 26 fifties.
