IND vs AUS: Ravindra Jadeja made a comeback to India’s Test team after a gap of almost five months since July 2022, and on the first day of the Nagpur Test, he took five wickets while conceding 47 runs in his 22 overs bowled. Jadeja, who was the highest wicket-taker when Australia last toured India for a Test series, shared his experience of returning to international cricket after recovering from an injury.Jadeja expressed that it was challenging to play Test cricket after a gap of 5 months on his return to India’s Test squad. He mentioned that he was ready for the challenge and had been working hard on his fitness and skills at NCA. He also played a first-class game (Ranji) after a long time and bowled 42 overs, which boosted his confidence for the Nagpur Test.

Efforts put in by Jadeja during his rehabilitation

Jadeja added that he had put in a lot of effort during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to prepare himself for Test matches. He stated that he would bowl for 10-12 hours every day, working on his rhythm and preparing himself for bowling long spells, which proved to be helpful.

Jadeja shares his approach to bowling and talks about the Nagpur wicket

Jadeja discussed the pitch at VCA Nagpur, which had been a hot topic leading up to the first India-Australia Test. He explained that there was not much bounce on the wicket and that he was aiming for a stump-to-stump line. He noted that some balls were spinning while others were going straight, and as a left-arm spinner, he credited the ball when he was able to get batsmen out caught behind or stumped. He also mentioned that in Test match cricket, any wicket taken is satisfying.
