Rohit Sharma confirms Ishan Kishan as opener ahead of 1st ODI vs West Indies

After a shamful performance in South Africa, the Indian team will resume their quest for the best comnination in ODIs against West Indies on February 6. India skipper Rohit Sharma will be back as skipper after recovering from the hamstring injury. This will be Rohit’s first assignment as full-time ODI skipper and for the very first time former captain Virat Kohli will play under the leadership of the star opener in any format. Meanwhile Rohit also confirmed that in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan will open along with him on Sunday.

The skipper also added that Mayank Agarwal who joined the team after the positive COVID cases in the Indian camp is unavailable for the first ODI as he joined the quarantine late.

“Ishan is the only option that we have and he will open. Mayank was added to the squad but he is still in isolation. He came late and we have some rules in place. If someone is travelling, we have to put them into quarantine,” he said.

“He has still not finished his quarantine, so Ishan will open the innings. Unless there’s an injury as we have training today and there is nothing of that sort. Fingers crossed,” he added.

India will play 3 ODIs against West Indies followed by two T20Is.
