Sandeep Lamichhane Rape Conviction Overturned! Will Play In ICC T20 World Cup 2024; Read Here

Sandeep Lamichhane: Good news for Nepal cricket as the Pathan High Court on Wednesday acquitted Sandeep Lamichhane in the rape case. Earlier in January, Kathmandu District Court sentenced him to eight years in jail after finding him guilty of the charges.

Sandeep was accused of raping an 18-years old woman named Gushala on August 21, 2022. According to the reports, the incident happened in a hotel in Tilanga in August 2022 and Sandeep has been fighting since then.

Senior advocates Ram Narayan Bidari, Raman Shrestha, Shambu Thapa, Murari Sapkota, and Krishna Sapkota challenged the Kathmandu District Court's verdict. His lawyers have welcomed the decision of the High Court.

Sandeep Lamichhane Innocent

Lamichhane was sentenced to an eight-year imprisonment and a half-million rupees fine by the District Court. He had been on provisional release pending the outcome of his appeal to Nepal's highest court.

The proceeding began on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday when the High Court declared the decision in the favour of the 23-year-old cricketer. It was a joyous moment for the lawyers and Sandeep himself.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024?

Sandeep has made himself available for the selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Before the convictions, he was the face of the Nepal cricket and led them to many historic moments.

While the 15-man squad was already announced, the board can make changes to the team till 25th May. So, it is possible that we might see Sandeep in the Nepal squad once again for the World Cup.

Sandeep has played 52 T20i matches for Nepal and has taken whopping 98 wickets. He has been the backbone of Nepal bowling and if selected will be crucial for them in the tournament.
