In the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) at the Eden Gardens, Gill, playing for Punjab, smashed a 55-ball 126 against Karnataka, just days after receiving a national call-up.The swashbuckling batsman gave the team a huge boost with his scorching knock, and they ultimately won by 9 runs. At a strike rate of 229.09, his flamboyant knock featured as many as 11 fours and nine sixes.
Called up for the national squads
The right-hander was called up for the national squads for the tour to New Zealand for the T20Is and ODIs as well as the Bangladesh ODIs, so the knock could not have come at a better time. Prior to the upcoming bilateral series in the following year, Gill will try to maintain his current form and consistency in order to secure his spot on the national team.
