T20 World Cup 2022: Glenn Philips becomes the first one to do this while scoring century versus the Asia champions

T20 World Cup 2022: With a scorching century against Sri Lanka in the Group 1 Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022, New Zealand batsman Glenn Phillips demonstrated why he is now one of the best batsmen in T20 cricket. After 20 overs, he hit 104 off 64 balls to help New Zealand to a score of 167/7. He scored 10 fours and 4 sixes in his knock.

He entered the game with New Zealand in a vulnerable position after losing both of its openers and skipper Kane Williamson cheaply. The score was 15/3, but Phillips and Daryl Mitchell later combined their efforts to put a competitive total on the board.

Phillips set a huge record on the way to his hundred. He batted at No. 4, and his 102 is the greatest score by a hitter in a T20 World Cup. Phillips is the only player to ever make a century while batting at position four or lower in a T20 World Cup. Not to mention, Phillips has hit the second-most sixes in T20s—149—since 2021. Only Liam Livingstone is ahead of him, who has hit 152 sixes in T20s.

Nobody actually attended came up for Black Caps except Phillips. Mitchell, who scored 22 runs off 24 balls, was the Kiwis’ second-best scorer. Phillips was fortunate to have survived, not to mention. Pathum Nissanka- dropped him while he was batting on 12.
