T20 World Cup: Asalanka, Bhanuka guide Sri Lanka to comfortable 5-wicket win vs Bangladesh

Sri Lanka handed Bangladesh a 10-wicket loss in their opening Super 12 fixture of the ongoing T20 World Cup on Sunday.

Batting first Bangladesh lost their tempo early with consecutive wickets but Mohammad Naib and veteran Mushfiqur stiched to a 63-run stand together for the third wicket. Naim top-scored for Bangladesh with his 62 runs knock while Mushfiqur remained not out and ended up getting 57 runs that guided Bangladesh to finish at 171/4.

Chasing the target of 172 runs, Sri Lanka were reduced to 79/4 at one stage with terrific bowling from Shakib Al Hasan (2/19). Later Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa added 86 runs for the fifth wicket that guided the 2014 champions to win their first match of the ongoing tournament.

“Happy that I could help Sri Lanka win the game. It looked like a very good pitch when I walked out to bat, so I tried to play my shots. Rajapaksha was the game changer, he played a few wonderful shots. I want to keep this up and keep winning games for my country,” said player of the match Asalanka.
