Tejasvi Surya: Bengaluru South constituency MP Tejasvi Surya has commented that the feudal entitlement mindset must end. Surya was responding to the recent requests by Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Congress MLA Vijayananda Kashappanavar and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka.

Ashoka made the request initially by saying that 4-5 free tickets must be provided to each Karanatka MLA for the inaugural match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Surya commented that the Karnataka State Cricket Association or any other sports body in the country is under no obligation whatsoever to offer free tickets to MLAs or other political representatives or their family members. The BJP MP also remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tried his best to do away with this form of VIP culture in India.

DK Shivakumar Attacks Tejasvi Surya

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar hit back at Surya and remarked that legislators in the country have the right to seek free IPL tickets. Shivakumar added that we have assured MLAs and opportunities have been created for them to participate. Shivakumar also added that Surya should first advice his own party leader.

Earlier, Congress MLA Vijayananda Kashappanavar had blasted the KSCA for denying tickets to ministers and legislators for the IPL starting March 28. Kashappanavar had commented that we are VIPs and cannot stand in long queues and therefore KSCA should offer 5 tickets to each minister and MLA in the state.

UT Khader, the Speaker of the Karnataka legislative assembly, had earlier directed the Karnataka state government to make sure that each MLA of the state gets at least 4 VIP tickets for IPL.

The request for 4-5 free VIP tickets came across all party lines after legislators complained of being given only a single ticket. In several instances, they were asked to access general and not VIP seating areas.
