Virat Kohli: In their 2015 World Cup opening match, India went up against their long-standing rivals, Pakistan. India won the toss and chose to bat initially. The opening pair of Rohit and Dhawan provided a solid beginning for India. Following Rohit's exit, Kohli took his place at the batting crease, batting in the third position. However, it was once again a Virat Kohli special as he led Men in Blue to victory.
Virat Kohli stars with century
The combination of Kohli and Dhawan worked splendidly, creating an impressive partnership of 129 runs that laid a strong foundation. Kohli, the right-handed batsman, displayed an excellent blend of aggressive and strategic play, highlighting his wide array of batting skills.
Kohli reached his half-century in 60 deliveries, but he didn't settle at that point. His exceptional performance continued, leading to a magnificent century – he scored 107 runs from 126 balls. This achievement made him the first Indian to achieve a hundred against Pakistan in a World Cup match.
Although Kohli was eventually dismissed by Sohail Khan, his score was important in establishing a demanding target of 301 runs. Pakistan's endeavour to pursue this score didn't succeed, as they kept losing wickets regularly. In the end, they were bowled out for 224 runs, leading to India's triumph by 76 runs, largely thanks to Kohli's notable contribution.
