This prestigious competition will also keep fans focused on players who have the potential to make history by surpassing the remarkable records established by cricket legends in previous editions of the World Cup. Some players have displayed exceptional performances in the last two World Cup tournaments, and now they may add a few records to their names in the upcoming World Cup.

Top 5 ICC ODI World Cup records that can be broken this year

1. Rohit Sharma breaking centuries' record

During the 2019 World Cup, Rohit Sharma showcased an aggressive style of cricket, emerging as the top run-scorer with an impressive tally of 648 runs, which included five centuries and a half-century in nine matches. The seasoned cricketer also achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first batsman to score five centuries in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. However, another record seems likely to be added to Rohit's name, that of the most centuries in World Cups. Currently, the dynamic Indian opener shares the record for the most World Cup centuries (6) with Sachin Tendulkar.

2. Mitchell Starc becoming leading wicket taker

Mitchell Starc was the leading wicket-taker in both the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, picking 22 and 27 wickets, respectively. If he continues his form, he could surpass Glenn McGrath's record of 71 World Cup wickets in the upcoming tournament.

3. Mohammed Shami breaking India's bowling record

With 31 wickets in 11 ODI World Cup matches, this veteran cricketer is poised to become India's all-time leading wicket-taker in the upcoming tournament, surpassing Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, who currently share the record with 44 wickets each.

4. Rohit Sharma breaking most sixes' record

Chris Gayle holds the ODI World Cup record for most sixes with 49. Rohit Sharma aims to surpass Tendulkar and Ganguly (27 and 29 sixes) and become India's top six-hitter in the upcoming World Cup with his current total of 23 sixes from 2015 and 2019 editions. In the 2019 tournament, Eoin Morgan led with 22 sixes, while Rohit ranked third with 14.

5. Glenn Maxwell breaking Ricky Ponting's record

Glenn Maxwell is set to play a crucial role in Australia's 2023 World Cup campaign, using his experience and explosive batting skills to strengthen the team. In their fifth World Cup victory, Maxwell contributed 324 runs in eight matches.

Currently, Maxwell has hit 21 sixes in 16 World Cup innings, ranking fourth among Australia's all-time six-hitters. However, in the upcoming tournament, he has the potential to become Australia's top six-hitter, surpassing Matthew Hayden, Aaron Finch, and Ricky Ponting. With extensive experience in India, Maxwell aims to showcase his fantastic batting style and contribute significantly to his national side in the marquee event.
