Turkish Super Lig: Besiktas’ football fans stun the world with heartwarming gesture – Watch what they did that stopped the match

Turkish Super Lig: The recent earthquake in Turkey has caused devastation and loss of life and property. In the midst of this, the football club Besiktas and their fans came together to show support during their recent match against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig game on Sunday, February 26. During the game, the Besiktas fans threw thousands of stuffed toys onto the playing field to donate to children affected by the earthquake in Turkey and neighbouring countries.

Match halted for four minutes

The match was temporarily halted for over four minutes while the fans threw toys onto the field. In a statement, the club said, “Our fans threw scarves, berets and plush toys on the ground of Vodafone Park to be given as a gift to the children in the earthquake region to cheer them up.” However, the match continued soon after.

This act of generosity by fans is being lauded by everyone. The video clips from the moment has gone viral on social media. Netizens have filled the comment box of the video with numerous reactions of gratitude. The game ended in a goalless draw, play was halted at 4 minutes and 17 seconds to allow fans to throw gifts onto the pitch. The kind gesture was in support of those affected by a series of earthquakes that struck Turkey on February 6th, the same time as the game’s pause.

The recent earthquake series in Turkey has claimed the lives of over 50,000 people. Among the victims was former Chelsea footballer Christian Atsu, whose body was discovered in the rubble caused by the earthquakes.
